Channel Lettering
Channel Letters are one of our favorite sign styles to do. When designing channel letters there are a few things to keep in mind:
• Minimum height for letters is 8″
• Minimum stroke (thickness) is 1.5″
Channel Letters have 3 main parts. The face, the trim, and the return.
• The face is the acrylic face on the front of the letter. Can be any color. Some are stock acrylic colors, some are covered in vinyl colors and some are digitally printed if the color cannot be matched any other way or the customer wants a gradient or other effect on the letter.
• The trim is a plastic trim glued to the face and is what attaches the letter to the return. Comes in several stock colors, including silver and gold.
• The return is the back part of the letter that houses the LEDs and makes up the bulk of the letter or logo. Can be any color. There are several stock aluminum colors and they can be painted to match any paint code.
Channel letters can be Raceway or Remote mounted.
• Raceways are a metal box that the letters are mounted to. They are used to house all the wiring and power supplies for the LEDs. They run the full length of the sign, but do not go past the edge.
• Raceways are standard 8″ tall and can be any color, usually painted to match the building they are mounted to, but are sometimes painted a color that matches or compliments the signage.
• Remote Mount means it does not have a raceway and the letters are mounted directly to the building or structure. I do not not recommend these unless the customer specifically asks for this type of install due to the increased difficulty of installation.
Once the design is complete please draw an 8″ box behind the sign to represent the raceway and let’s the customer know what the sign will look like with the raceway installed.
Please format the layout like the below design, pointing out the various areas, and including the overall measurements. Once formatted in this manner, the design will need to be sent to the following emails so we can get a quote from our manufacturers.
