Lighted Signs: Single Sided

Assembly:

One of the primary methods we use to construct single-sided lighted cabinets is through the use of Excellart kits. These kits feature high-quality, rust-free aluminum extrusions and are designed for easy assembly. Please refer to the videos below for detailed instructions on assembling these kits:

Once the kit is assembled and the backer is securely attached, the next step is to wire the lighting. For this particular sign style, we utilize QwikMOD4 LEDs, which feature double-sided tape on the back of each module for easy application. Simply peel and stick the modules onto the aluminum backer. To determine the correct layout and number of modules required for your sign’s dimensions, use the eZLayout tool from PrincipalSloan.

Installation:
Step 1: Prepare the Installation Surface

Ensure the wall or mounting surface where the sign will be installed is clean, dry, and free of any debris. Use a level to verify the surface is even. Mark the area where the sign will be mounted and measure the space to ensure proper alignment.

Step 2: Determine the Sign Placement

Measure the desired height and location for the sign on the wall. Use a tape measure and level to ensure the sign will be properly centered and straight. Mark the top corners or center of the sign placement with a pencil, marker, or tape

Step 3: Prepare the Sign for Lifting

If you haven’t already, remove the face of the sign by unscrewing one end of trim and sliding out the face. Mount eyebolt to top of sign (use 2 if necessary). Lift the sign (using crane with appropriate lifting strap, hooks, eyebolts, etc.) aligning the center top with the marked line on the wall.

Step 4: Mark Mounting Holes

Place the sign against the wall at the desired location and hold it in place. Mark the points where the mounting holes or brackets need to be drilled. Occasionally , signs will have pre-drilled holes or bracket mounting points, but if not, mark the necessary spots for drilling. Make sure these marks are level.

Step 5: Drill Holes for Mounting

Using a drill and appropriate bit size for the fasteners, drill holes at the marked spots on the wall. If installing on drywall, stucco or other lightweight materials, you will need wall anchors or toggle bolts to ensure a secure hold. For masonry or concrete walls, use a masonry drill bit and the appropriate anchors.

Step 6: Install Mounting Hardware

Insert the wall anchors or screws into the drilled holes. If needed, use a hammer to gently tap the anchors into the wall. Ensure the anchors are securely in place before proceeding with attaching the sign.

Step 7: Mount the Sign

Carefully align the sign with the drilled holes and mounting hardware. If the sign has brackets, align those with the corresponding holes or support points. Attach the sign using the provided screws, bolts, or fasteners, ensuring it is securely fixed to the wall.

Step 8: Connect the Electrical Wiring

Assuming the sign is lighted, connect the building’s electrical wiring to the power supply. Ensure all wiring is properly connected and follows local electrical codes. Depending on the sign, you may need to wire the sign to a power box or plug it into an electrical outlet.

Step 9: Test the Sign

Once the wiring is connected, power on the sign to check that the lighting functions properly. Ensure all sections of the sign are illuminated evenly. If there are any issues with the light or wiring, troubleshoot the connections and fix any faults. If there is no electric or the existing electric is not working or otherwise unavailable, test connection using our generator. Plug wires into an extension cord and plug into generator and turn sign on. Take a picture of working lights as proof to show customer the sign does work and communicate any issues with their electric. Double check all connections and rehook to building power and test again. If power still does not come on, communicate to customer they need to have an electrician check out the

Step 10: Install Sign Faces

Once properly positioned, and hooked to power, it is time to put in the face. Lift the faces in the bucket or use crane and lifting bar if sign is over 5×10. Slide face into trim and put on all remaining trim pieces, by screwing into place.

Step 11: Final Inspection

Check the overall installation. Confirm the sign is secure, the wiring is correctly connected and safely tucked away, and the sign is functioning as expected. Ensure there are no exposed wires or other hazards.

Step 12: Clean Up

Once the sign is properly installed and lit, clean up any debris or leftover materials from the installation process. Dispose of any waste appropriately and ensure the installation area is left neat and tidy.

Then do a final walk around with the customer and address and fix any concerns immediately (This will reduce the chance for any call backs).

If customer is satisfied be sure to ask for a Google review and help them through the process. Also see if they will do a video testimonial sharing their experience. Video the customer in front of their new sign using your phone. Video can be 30 seconds or less, they just need to share their name and business and how happy they are with their new sign from Highway Man Signs! Be sure to get pics of the sign installed and email everything to info@highwaymansigns.com
